En sus inicios, el teatro cumplió funciones distintas pero complementarias en la formación de la identidad cultural:
- Grecia Antigua: Sentó las bases del drama occidental con la tragedia y la comedia, utilizando máscaras para representar arquetipos humanos. (Ancient Greece laid the foundations of Western drama with tragedy and comedy, using masks to represent human archetypes).

Los pueblos romoníes actuaron como puentes culturales que difundieron historias de una región a otra, rompiendo barreras sociales e integrando el drama callejero con la música.
